FAQs about removal of unwanted hair

Question: What areas of the body can be treated?

Answer: All areas on the body can be treated with electrolysis with the exception of the inner ear, nipples and nostrils.

 Question: Who can be treated?

Answer: Electrolysis is suitable for both men and woman; under 16's require a GP referral. There are some conditions which make electrolysis an unsuitable treatment for some individuals to have. A medical history is taken at the initial consultation, this will provide me with information as to whether electrolysis is contra-indicated, sometimes it is necessary to get your GP's approval for treatment before we can start.

 Question: Are needles used?

Answer: Yes a very fine pre sterilised, single use needle is used, it is the same diameter as the hair. The needle is inserted into the hair follicle alongside the hair.

Question: How long will it take for the treatment to work?

Answer: Electrolysis is progressive and rarely a one off treatment. Treatment length is dependant on a number of factors including density and texture of hair growth, skin condition, skin sensitivity and the area to be treated.

Question: What equipment do I use ?

Answer: I use an Apilus Senior II system, I also use Sterex pre-electrolysis cleanser and aftercare products. My needle holder and needles are Sterex and  Ballet . Very fine tweezers are used to help slide the hair from the follicle once the current has been applied. All electrolysis is carried out wearing gloves which are disposed of at the end of each treatment session.

Question: How do I sterilise equipment that is not single use (epilator, needle holder, tweezers)?

Tweezers are sterilised using Sterisure www.sterex.com which is Bactericiadal, Fungicidal, Virucidal, Sporicidal and Mycobactericidal. It is effective agianst MRSA, Hepatitis B and HIV. I then use a second form of sterilisation which is a Glass Bead Steriliser which sterilises at a temperature in excess of 300 degrees centigrade; the tweezers are then kept in Barbicide which is a germicide and discinfectant until they are used.

Fact:

I am registered with Purbeck District Council as having a certificate of registration to carry out the practice of electrolysis www.purbeck.gov.uk . It is issued by the Principal Environmental Health Officer and a copy of the certificate is displayed on my premises.
